Artist Statement
I make images as a way to listen.
To stillness.
To what breathes beneath the surface.
To the slow rhythm of decay, light, silence, and form.
My photographs are meditations—on what disappears, on what remains, on what cannot be named.
I am drawn to what is broken, weathered, or forgotten.
To textures that speak in a language older than speech.
To darkness that reveals more than it hides.
Each image is a fragment of prayer.
Not to something above, but within.
I do not seek to explain.
Only to be present,
and invite others into that presence.
Artist Bio
Born in Moscow in 1983, Arseniy Grobovnikov began his journey in photography at the age of 18, capturing the raw energy of Russia’s nightlife scene. This early work quickly evolved into a studio-based practice, leading to high-profile collaborations with Russian celebrities and editorial assignments for major magazines. His portraits have graced numerous covers, and he has served as the personal photographer for several pop artists in Russia.
Arseniy’s work has been exhibited in three solo shows in Moscow, where his signature style—both intimate and cinematic—began to crystallize. In 2012, he relocated to New York City and studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy, where he deepened his visual language through motion picture work. Over the next eight years, he worked in the film industry while also founding and operating a photography studio in Brooklyn.
In 2024, Arseniy moved to Reno, Nevada, where he continues his path as a visual artist. His current practice blends photography and cinematic influences, exploring themes of solitude, memory, and emotional depth through abstract and often otherworldly imagery.
